On thursday there is a mock trial and since im in ap gov i have to take part in it. Heres the situation, I dont know how to write a introduction for the defense part of the trial. I dont know how to start it or really anything.

Heres our case, Pat Parker had a parking permit(he paid for it) to park on 4 streets near the school. The town decided to ban the parking and posted no parking signs on the streets. Pat Parker drove to school and parked on one of the streets and got a parking ticket. He is now sueing the town for it and the right to park on those streets.

Does anyone have any experience with trials or mock trials? Have any ideas on how to start this? Do I say like Ladies and Gentlemen I have here evidence that proves..... or ? Thanks

I can post more information if anyneed thinks they can help me, I cant find any intros online just to look at and im really stuck.

Sorry man, no one did my homework for me, can't find it in my heart to do it for you. Best of luck to you though

im not asking anyone to do my homework for me, just a starting point so i can get started on it.

im defending the town and trying to prove pat parker is guilty

Sorry bro. But i think Pat should win just because he did pay for it to the beginning so he should probobly just get his money back.

ya sorry im trying to prove that the town is not guilty. And to RTC thats why this is so hard, there is barely any evidence to make Pat lose the case.

Im mainly looking for how a introduction to a trial goes, like the form. Is there particulary statements you are suppoded to say or can you just start it anyway you want to.

no lol

that helps thanks

Your opening statement and closing argument is gonna be ur first and last chance to convince the judge, jury, and tell ur side of the story. Your opening statement is going to be a quick summary (set the scene, define the issue, explain what's in dispute, attack his credibility, finish with a strong point and ask for ur verdict). Your closing argument is gonna be similar. Sum up the arguments and main points.
Always face the jury when you speak. Be concise, if u get nervous...look away and try refrain from saying (umm, and). Keep ur hands out of your pocket (looks like you've got something to hide). Always refer to the judge as "judge" or "your honor". Maybe learn some simple objections but be ready to back it up..(ex..form of a question, repetitive, irrelevant, asked and answered...) Stand up...speak directly to the judge when u object.....have fun with it :)
