Stoon
So I had this old topfin filter lying around and it looked and ran terrible, so after a few tweaks and weaks, I managed to get a much more powerful pump attached to the propeller thus increasing GPH. I extended the area for media too. I added bio media max (fluval) and some cotton. :D BEST HOB!

A good idea for any horrible filters you have lying around! :grinno:

Here are the pics!:headbang2

The filter rate is increased by putting a more powerful power box on the filter, and replacing the propeller and the pump.:D Most of the media is in the filter sock.

bump. I poured sand over gravel. Looks great. Maybe I need more new pics!

you should've put the biomax.."ceramic rings"..on the other side of your filter cartridge..the water flowing through the rings has to be as clear as possible..any "gunk" buildup in the rings will cause them to malfunction..just a fyi

looks great would puting a powerhead on the input work in the same way? and do you have to take out all the biomedia when you change the filter loss?

Taking all the biomedia = taking away most BB (benificial bacteria) so don't do that.

A powerhead would work to some extent but i'm not clear - are you trying to fit a powerhead right in front of the intake?
