Doing water changes
I have my 180 in the garage and it has 2 drains in the bottom of the tank connected to a valve and a hose connector. the two holes that can drain the tank they have these i guess large debris filters that stick up about 6 inches. Now i want to add some substrate to this tank do you think i should leave these as is or should i cut them down so they can be covered by the substrate?

i owuld cut them down to look better :)

depends on how much gravel your putting in there. if you cut them down and plan to use them your going to end up with gravel in there. depending on what size they are there are shower drains that are flush, I think they screw in but may be wrong.

I was thinking the very last line on the bottom to cut

I dont plan on using them unless for some reason the tank starts leaking which most likely will not happen

i would leave them and just paint them black

How could i paint that if it is inside of the tank?

nvm i didnt realize your are not actually going to use them as drains, in that case i would cut them out. but if you are going to use them as drains, they should be able to screw or pop out and then it would be easy to paint them

Wouldnt the paint leak into the water once i fill up the tank with water

cut them off....maybe invert them so if you ever need to use the drain you don't have gravel running through the pipe....
