Hi Everyone,

I was looking at the fittings page at Petsolutions.com.

Can someone explain how to hook up a mod pipe to a 3/4" PVC return coming out of my overflow box.

This is what I will be going with on my overflow setup.

I also saw a mod pipe tool? What is that for?

Any pics\explantations would be helpful.

Thanks all.

This is a flexible pipe used to direct water flow for proper circulation (no dead spots) in difficult tanks. Mostly used in S/W systems for coral.

Looks cool but if you plan your tank to start with it usually isn't necessary in F/W.

Thanks Dr. Joe.

I assume I would use a 3\4" PVC and put a 90 on it - then i just glue in the Mod pipe and bend it the way I want to. I noticed a fan attachment as well. Looks like a good setup to "fan" out the return flow to get good surface agetation.

I'll post a new thread here shortly about a DIY sump I made and have been using for two weeks now.

I have a 180gl All Glass with built a built in overflow box.

I initially set it up with threaded bulk heads and threaded caps - So I now have this unsightly DIY overflow tube and sump right next to the tank.

I want to tear it all down and utilize the built in box and put the sump in the basement right under the tank and use the overflow returns as well.

WHY? Did I do this....

Because before discovering this site - my LFS recommended two Magnum 350 canisters because he said African Cichlids are really messy. And this would be the least maintenance.

WELL..... after joining this site and learning more....

I can't dispute the canister filters faults (i.e. blow by, less volume as it gets dirtier). So I want to use my DIY sump going forward with the built in overflow box.

Just looking for info on how to make the intake and return PVC pipes for it.

thanks.
