I picked up a school of 9 of these yesterday for my eartheater tank, and must say they are a much overlooked tetra. My tank looks so much more complete with these guys schooling up top. They are not extremely colorful, but have some intense spangling and shine, along with bright red in the eyes, which makes them really beautiful to watch. I really like them :).

I tried to get a group shot, but they are constantly on the move. It was incredibly hard just to get these.

Always nice to have a shoal of tetras in with eartheaters - great pics. I went with more common black tetras, but these look great. They are greedy eaters are they not?

Very greedy. I'm feeding them the nls small fish formula I usually use for my fry, and the love it. They even tried to go after the 2mm pellets I use for the other fish.

Dude I loooove these fish. I've got a shoal of 12 myself in a 30G. Very underrated and beautiful tetra. They look especially amazing under a reddish light. Great pickups!

Great tetras! Highly endangered beauties. Their random scaling is my favorite feature.

Yeah someone posted a video of them snorkeling in their habitat. I remember them saying how rare it is to find these in the wild now a days. I got mine for about $2 each. How much do they go for usually? I've seen 'em as high as $8-10 in some places lol, but then again I rarely see these for sale.

Thanks guys, I didn't know that they are almost extinct. The place I got them from was selling them for $5 a piece, but when I asked if they could give a better price if I bought all of them, the lady said she would give them to me 3 for $8 :WHOA:. So I left quickly, and walked away with 9 for $24.
