Iceland
So, a couple days back I ordered a Red tailed catfish, which is ready for pick up tomorrow. I noticed that the lfs imported a P. Mokelembembe. This is the first time a Polypterus Mokelembembe has ever been to Iceland so it has gotten me very excited.
I know the moke grows slow, and the red tail is pretty much the opposite of that, but i really am going to mind asking if there is any way of them co-existing in the same tank.

They are both around 3", i was wondering, should i even bother to buy the moke when i pick up the rtc?

The only way I would pick up both of them is if I had a tank I could move the moke into as the rtc will be able to eat it in a couple of months if your lucky and it grows slower than normal. I don't foresee this combo lasting for very long and you would end up with a very fat and happy rtc.

Exactly what i thought, well know, just needed to hear it.

Only thing i could do is to divide the tank up, which i don't see happening for a very long time because the tank is only 125g (don't worry, the RTC will go to a better home when he out grows the tank).

Jake, I would not do it even at their current sizes, rtc grow so fast and eat everything in site, might even be able to choke the moke down now. Moke grow very slow, slowest growing poly I have kept. They just don't like to eat often like a delhezi or senegal would...rtc a different story.
Congrats iceland on the poly, moke are real cool to keep. I think I am the only one in my town with a moke, they are not common to see even here in the US. I won't even dare to ask the price tag, as they are pretty expensive here too.

honestly you shouldn't even get the RTC, thing will outgrow your 125 within a year and then you've gotta find somebody with a heated pond in iceland to unload the thing on

Should be fine.........

For about an hour lol
Get the moke as you will be able to keep it for its lifetime, the rtc on the other hand will outgrow your 125 very very quickly if you feed it properly and will eat anything else in the tank as soon as it can,bad buy all round,id love one but ive not got the room so end of.
If you have not posted this in the catfish section already i think you should,i will look out for your thread in there.

good luck.

RTC= happy lunch from the Moke..

I say you can put them in and use a divider. THE MOKE IS RARE AND A BEAUTY, forget the RTC and keep the MOKE BRO. ALL WORTH IT IN THE END!

I went down to the lfs today and picked up the rtc, tiny little thing, little bigger than 2", i also had a look at the two mokes they imported, both are around 4".
The mokes were VERY cheap for poly's here in iceland. They were $68 a piece. Ornates, Delhezis, Laps and Endlis are much more expensive here.
Even the RTC was more expensive.

If i had known sooner that they were gonna import a mokes i definately would have ordered them instead of the rtc. NO DOUBT

You really don't think i know that? When it grows out the 125 he will go to another home.

I know.. i kind of regret ordering the rtc. Still, everytime i look at his pretty little face i instantly forget the moke. Cutest thing ever!

Thank you all for your comments. :D

i don't doubt you know that... all i'm saying is good luck finding somebody to take it
