I ordered one of these bichirs Online and it’s arriving Thursday. I have a 220 peaceful community and want to know what would be some good tank mates for him? He will be arriving at 4” but I want to plan for him to be full sized. Long term tank mates.

Could add some Geophagus sp, Bush fish, Congo tetras, barbs and African butterfly fish. Even some larger eel sp like m. dayi or zonatus will work.

i currently have a bunch of rainbows, barns, some dwarf synodontis, a Bush fish, and a banjo cat.

they dont get big rarely over 10" if I remember correctly so do a poly community with tons of polys upper jaws and lowers
but if you dont want to do that just dont put them with anything that can eat them or be eaten and stay away from plecos

Well, considering how slow they grow compared to other polys, you would need to buy a large one like 10" in order to survive lower jaw polys and upper jaws like ornates, weeksii, and teugelusi.

As others have said more uj polys, staying away from the big three, ornate weeksi, and teugs. Congo tetras, red eye African tetras, some sa tetras will work. What size tank for it?

I’m not putting any other bichirs in there. I picked the smallest size bichir for a reason. I hope I can end up with a tank that’s peaceful with no fighting and no fun nipping. I guess my little plecos and banjo cat should get sold. I don’t want any choking hazards.

Hi spitz006 spitz006 !

I know this has been quite a while but I have not been able to find much information on mokelembembe care in community tanks, so I was wondering if you did end up getting one? I too have some concerns over whether it would attack my existing fish like Synodontis nigriventris and medium size (6-7cm Cameroon/vampire shrimps).

Thank you!

Moke's are relatively shy, but are still rather predatory IME. Syno'll probably be fine, but I wouldn't put it past one to target the vampire shrimps, especially at night.
