ok, purchasing a house in about 3 weeks, made an offer last night. first home, so it is an old school split level. anyway the large botten bonus room is like 400 Sq. ft. of pure man cave/fish room. So at moment, my 75, is going, talking a trade for a 125, and hopefully i can get a bigger one say 250-300. ok the kinda serious quetion. I am a poster collector aswell, not bragging but for purpose; i have lots of high end 100-700.00 posters id like to put on wall space were there isnt a tank under it. I have custom frames but what about the humidity. The room is open to the kitchen above an over look that looks over the bonus room; which is pretty much open to the rest of the second floor. If the house is that open do i have to worry about mold and humidity problems since it is not in a room but an open space. I hope this doesnt sound dumb.
thank you in advance

You sounds like the poster expert what type of conditions are best for them?? Duplicate that!!

not the expert on humidty created by fish tanks though, and i see in alot of fish rooms people using them so just wanted to be sure. direct light is not best for them so the darkest room in the house is the bonus, then i worry about the humidty.

When I added my 600 gallon tank the humidity went up by 20+% also depends on your area what the climate is like. Here we have a dry state so a bit of humidity is not bad but when I lived in Washington this much humidity would be dangerous. I got a dehumidifier just to be safe. I have found that it sure is nice as a back up. Worked really hard the first couple days and now it works much less. Good tops on a tank will make a big difference with everything. Get some way to test the humidity and see where your at

A fan (or 2) can move the air out of the area near the tank, or a dehumidifier will help take it down. Being an open area is good, but the kitchen will build up heat and moisture as well during dish washing / cooking. During the summer/rainy season, humidity will rise even more.

My advice price match walamrt cost with best buy. I got the 70lt Frigidaire. 199.98 + 4 year warranty was about 240.00. I like this one I got.

Depends what the air outside is like, if you're in a dry climate I wouldn't waste money on a dehumidifier and just make sure the room is ventilated adequately. Mind you if its freezing cold outside a dehumidifier would probably be cheaper than the heat loss from having cold air flowing thru the room. Either way keep the tank well covered if possible, and perhaps stick to closed-loop type filters rather than a sump.
