I put in a couple pieces in my 20 long because I am turning it into a planted tank, I boiled the wood previous night and set up my tank and cleaned the gravel and filter. Went to bed and woke up the next morning and saw both of my pieces covered in a think layer of mold, my chinese eater is eating it off but it is still gross, any one know what this could be?

self bump for help :(

I took the wood out and scrubbed it down and boiled it a little bit again and it grew more mold, less of it this time but still grew it again, any one know what I should do? It's just in my 20g long, not in my 55.

Do I just keep taking it out and cleaning it?

You don't have to remove it. It is a harmless fungus; I've found that Manzanita gets the most growth, while I rarely get growth even on new Malaysian driftwood.

Most people don't like it because it is unsightly. After a few weeks it should go away.

I boiled each piece for at least an hour each, I scrub it every other day it's not comming back as much any more.
