Hi all I am thinkg of getting like 5 mollies and 5 guppies and putting them in my 20G would it be hard to breed these fish? I am breeding cons in it right now.. What all is need I don't like live plants can I do it with out that ? :headbang2

the cons would kill them. i have fake plants with my guppies in a 10 gal and they are pregant. 2 females 1 male

Heck, they should have no problems breeding for you. Even if your males die, the females will still give birth to a couple more broods as female guppies and mollies have the ability to store sperm.

Most of the time you don't have to buy males, just buy gravid females, less stress for them without the males constantly harassing them.

I will try them both in my 20G.. I will be getting rid of my cons before I buy the mollies and guppies.. How many u think I can keep in a 20G(a mix of both)?

That really depends on the mollys.
Some mollys grow to 2", others grow to 5", or anywhere inbetween.
Obviously you can't keep nearly as many 5" fish in a 20g tank as 2" fish!

If it were just guppies and you were good about your water changes (and had a decent filter setup) you could keep 20ish adult guppies. Fry don't add nearly as much bioload wise being small.
On the other hand with 20 guppies in there fry are going to have a hell of a time surviving, and even if they do they won't grow as fast or as large as they would in a 20g with 5-10 adult guppies.

might want to keep the adults in a breeding pen so the babies can escape and have free roam of the rest of the tanks. maybe use floating mops of yarn so the babies have additional place to hide.

For either mollys or guppys is best to have at least 2-3females per male as otherwise the males will over-harrass the females if there are too few of them to the males.
Do you know what variety/s of mollys you have? There are many different varieties which vary a lot in how big they'll grow, if you post pics i can ID them for you.
How many males and females do you have with the guppys and mollys? I wouldn't advise buying anymore for the time being. If you want to ensure that the fry make it to adulthood, i would advise buying a tank of around 5gallons to raise the fry in separatly, as a lot will get eaten by the adult guppys and mollys and convicts etc.
I've heard that convicts can be quite territorial towards fish like mollys and guppys when they have fry, so i wouldn't personally advise mixing them together.

edit: ah i just noticed you said "i am thinking of getting guppys and mollys", not that you already have them- sorry for the mistake.
Personally i would choose between either having the guppys or the mollys but not both. Mollys can be more demanding to look after, and their fry can take up to a year to mature. Personally i would advise opting for guppys instead, as they are simple to look after and their fry only take 3months on average to mature. I think you would be better off though having a separate tank of at least 10gals to put the guppys in rather than mix them with the convict cichlids, guppys and mollys wouldn't stand a chance against a pair of convict cichlids if they did decide to pick on them.
If you go for mollys, you will need at least a 12-15gallon long tank to keep them in.

Mollies and Guppies are the Convicts of the Livebearers. Just add water and have a male and female.
