I have a 30gal with mollies... mostly orange and black mollies. I also have a 'calico' type male and not so pretty female. All the offspring have been natural (no forced pairing) so far. And I have to say I am amazed at what we have been getting. And I also have to say I have no idea what is from who! I came out with a few silvers, dalmations, orange and orange / black (marble?) with blue eyes, silver with blue eyes. Not sure if the blue eyes will stick or if the silvers will stay clean...

I also have a few interesting specimens; one is all black, but yellow eyes, and very faint yellow strip on the top of the dorsal and faintly in a few other areas - always on the edge, actually I have another similar to this one in another tank. The other interesting thing I have observed is the orange ones - just a few of them sometimes exhibit a 'fire' tail - flares or streams of red / red-orange coloration in the tail. Only a few of them show this from time to time and I am a bit puzzled about these.

All of these came from a major chain pet store, so I am certain they are the bottom barrel picks. But as I breed other animals and have kept fish for a few years - I from time to time looked up genetics for fish and it is either quite an underground world, or so simple it is obvious, or just nobody cares to document it!

I know there is some underground going on after countless visits to a few discuss breeder shops :p

So... may I have something special in my molly tank, and why can't I find any solid info on genetics?

Thanks :)

i know this wont help but i breed mollies i find it a passion of mine. watch out for defects because in my expirence defected fish will produce defects. ive had to get rid of my fair shair of defects to get prize winners. my beared dragon loves culls
