i was wonderng if its possibe for a fish to be in distress when shes put into a breeder because she dosnt have alot of space to swim. i feel like shes really unhappy so i took her out. what i did for now is i put a mesh to section off a small part for her (and the 3 other pregnant fish) in the tank so she has a little more space. its not very secure so if anyone has ever done this let me know how to do it right. thanx

that's how my platty and my guppies got. i'm not sure if it's the small space alone, or the fact that it's pregnant, thus more susceptable to stress. i'd say leave it in your tank until soon before if gives birth. other than that i'm really not sure.

I feel it's better to leave them in the tank and partition a small area off. Make sure the area is well planted so the fry have a place to hide.

A small area in their own tank in which they have lots of room to swim is the best option followed by a seperate fry birthing tank followed by the nets. Mollies are especially ill-suited for breeding nets because they are such large livebearers.

My female got very distressed when I tried her in one. Interestingly so did her male partner on the outside of the breeder so it seemed to be the seperation that upset them.

I didn't think it was worth the stress to them to get a few Mollie babies so I haven't interferred again - it the gives the rest of the tank some live food anyway!
