Hi Guys,
Following up on the previous thread in 2008 I have bred a Molly female with a Male Guppy, OK so it was all down chance but I can assure you they have bred and I have 16 fry in my isolation chamber and they all seem healthy, fit and strong. To all those doubters out there I only have one female molly (which I bought when she was approx. 2cm long) and I purposely bought her because I have one Guppy who thinks he is a Molly. They have been courting for the last 6 months and she finally popped them out last week, and the parents now seem to be courting everyday so I'll have more to follow I'm sure. I will post some pictures when they are bigger as they only look like fry at the mo. So it is possible to cross breed these with very little effort and I know exactly how it can be done.

I was aware that the females can hold sperm, I purposely bought this female when she was young and she was only about 2 cm long. At first she didn't want to know the Guppy even though he tried his hardest daily and she would chase him off but eventually she came round and she began flirting back, maybe this was because she became sexually mature?. Now she has given birth she seems to hang around with my Guppy (much to his delight) and they do seem to act like they are at it again. So if I am right I will have another batch soon:-) I will post some pictures soon so you can decide for yourselves. I can post some video footage now on you tube if anyone is interested.

It'd be cool to see if this is in fact going on. I'm not sure how possible it is either (as in, I really have no clue) but I'm a little skeptical.

They aren't very closely related, but close enough that they can interbreed. That is why you don't hear about this mix very often as fry are usually weak and die off quickly to novice breeders.

Good luck with the fry I have you can raise them. I've be interested in trying this for years but never got around to it. I think I may try soon though. I will use a large female wild strain guppy hopefully to influence color in fry.
