Hey Guys!!!! My Crayfish just molted today. But is it natural that it develops a white fungus looking thing on its head? It kinda looks like a white flat-top haircut. Its looks weird..
Definitely looks fungal... some bacteria look like fungi, but I could see a soft, stressed crayfish molting and an opportunistic infection occurring. The exoskeletons are chitin too, which is a good substrate for some fungi.
Nice looking crayfish I've had one for 4 years, and they are fun creatures.
Keep the tank extremely clean. It should clear up with the next molt.
You could try to dab a little bit of listerine on it as that should not hurt the cray. I would be cautious with any tank meds though as many of them are harmful to inverts. I know there are some safe treatments, can't remember the meds off the top of my head though...
