Nics spawned over two weeks ago. Parents finally let them out of the cave to explore today. For some reason she always keeps them inside a long time. I was able to feed then some de-encapsulated brine shimp eggs.

I turned the lights off in the room and I guess she figured it was time to put them back in the safety of the cave for the night.

I love this pair. They are on my computer desk right next to me. They dont even blink that I am so close as they are so used to me.

what sp. are those beauts ?

Nicaraguensis, and stunning ones at that.

Awesome pair. I really wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine they are stunning fish.

They look great! My female is very possessive of fry. She beat on the male pretty hard when they spawn to the point where he hides. Looks like yours having things down much better than mine do. They are beautiful!

Thanks. Both are about 3 years old. Male is only about 7" and female about 5". Male is very red and gets a nice hump sometimes. Female if not the prettiest I have seen, but has nice colors in person.

They only breed every 3 months or so. They have raised babies in the tank to over 2" and ignored them. They are in only a 46g 36" tank, but are mellow and fine with other tankmates. Just stay away from the babies LOL.

Many spawns she will exile him for a bit. He knows to stay away or feel her wrath. Usually in a few days he worms his way back in and she accepts him.

Whe not spawning this pair is amazingly bonded and dont leave each others side. They lip lock HARD for hours and then spawn that same night.

They grew up together since 2" and would not spawn till over a year. Adding a large "Cichlid Stone" cave did the trick. I recentyly bought this bigger one since he didnt fit in the old.
