how long do you think this lion can go with out eating? i really do not want to have to resort to feeders, but im afraid that i might have to. on friday itll be 1 week since hes been in canada. (i got him right off the plane pretty much) and he has not eaten anything. he 2 days ago, he started staring down krill as it passed hi, yesterday, he actually moved to follow it a bit, today, he actually darted towards the krill, but, when the krill stoped moving, he lost intrest, should i just keep going with the krill? hope the progress continues? he looks healthy. his colour is good, and he is moving about the tank, well as much as you would expect from a lion, lol. any suggestions?? p.s. if i do use feeders, it will only be to ween him onto prepared foods. it will not at all be his staple! ill get a photo of him sometime soon.

Try bloodworms, brine shrimp both frozen, or a silverside ona string so it looks alive, maybe even a piece of shrimp on string.

But if u have to, use feeders to make him eat!

How bout ghost shrimp or sutmhin?

umm, he is probably a bit to big for mysis, and im not going to buy silversides, was not impresed with them at work, and dont intend on keeping them at home. hes still afraid of the stick, my question was more, how long can he go with out food?? his only tank mates are a snowflake eel. and he will only eat krill off the stick! and im not kidding, he wont chase food down, unless its on the stick.

I wouldn't say he is too big for Mysis, I have a 5 inch long Bird-nose Wrasse and Krill and Mysis is all he will eat. For a while it was just Mysis....I even had to put garlic in the mix to get him to eat the mysis, once he started he never stopped.

How big is he (can't tell from the pic)? My 12" fahaka puffer still gulps down tiny blackworms from the cone feeder.

ok, you need to train him to eat from a net.

go get some molly's to feed him. then every time you feed him put the feeder molly in the tank with a net so he sees the net. when he is consistently coming and grabbing the fish from the net then you can start to train him. first start by killing the molly before feeding, this will get the lion used to eating dead food. when he eats them consistently then substitute a piece of shrimp. when he is on the shrimp then you can move him to whatever you want or just feed him shrimp.

he can probably go more than 2 weeks with out food or more.

He can go for two or three weeks with out a feed. I would also try silversides or shrimp on a bit of line. As a last resort feed him gut loaded mollies but, only do that if he won't take frozen foods. The quicker you can get him off live foods the better off you'll be.

k, im almost there, i caved and used some gut loaded ghost shrimp, only cuz my freind got his on krill already, and we got them the same day. but he is eating of the stick, and he did eat a peice of krill, granted there was also a ghost shrimp on the stick, but in just about 3 hrs, and 4 shrimps, he now recognizes the stick as food. ill try in a few days again starting with just krill. hell cave, they always do with me, lol, my eel will only eat from the stick, he actually will not even eat the krill if it is too high in the tongs, helly just bite away at the tip, where the krill usually is. and if it floats away, the leaves it. big gourami and max, thanks for answering the question.

oh the reason i am saying that he is probably to big for mysis, is simply the size of his mouth, and what and how he normally eats. think of it like this, the puffers mouth is tiny in comparison to his body. they generally eat crustations like smaller snails, small shrimp, and at the most crawfish/lobsters, and that being said, ive only ever seen a 14 inch porqupine puffer eat a craw, and he had to break it in half. the long nose bird wrasse, well, is nose is like that so that he can eat small things, and pull them out of small crevices. the mombosa, has a humungos mouth View attachment mombosamouth.bmp as is his appitite. not likeley that he is going to go for mysis as his first prepared meal.
