I would like them to pass a law that you have to illustrate the Nitrogen cycle before you can own an aquarium. Kind of like a drivers test for fish keepers

If I had a dollar for every time I attempted to explain it to a customer who obviously isn't listening and just wants to overstock their tank from day one I would be a rich man :nilly:

Sorry, some days working at the store are better than others ;)

Been there, done that.
At least they didn't insist the pike cichlid in the tank behind you was an illegal snakehead.

i feel your pain.. i work at petsmart... my personal biggest pet peeve is WHERE'S THE NEMO FISH?!?!... funniest is when some people think 'tropical' means saltwater and that the only freshwater fish we carry is goldfish... also the start fair started last thursday.. i worked saturday and had 18... count em... eighteen people come in with the goldfish they'd won >_<

Well at least all the idiots out there make you really apprieciate when someone comes in willing to learn, or better yet, already know all the basic fish keeping needs.

Nothing feels better than a looong day of "no sorry, that goldfish is too big for a bowl" & "yes, you need to add water conditioner to your tank", than when someone walks in and actually knows what theyre doing.

And that's how I've managed get discounted prices on a few occasions at one particular chain pet store; the guy who runs the fish department is usually able to get manager authorization to sell fishes that have been in the store for weeks (if not months) slightly above or at their original cost to the store when someone with a reasonable amount of knowledge asks about them. I find that policy to be one that other stores could easily use to their benefit since they make no money on returned dead fish.
