I have a breeding pair of convicts in a 25gal wich just had babies. The fry have been free swimming for 2 or 3 days now. This morning I noticed a white cottony fuzz around the females mouth. I don't have a quarinteen tank to put her in. I have a 2 gal bowel with a tiny filter that I could possibly use but I don't have a heater for it. Can I leave her in the tank with the babies and treat the whole thing or should I take her out and try to use the bowel? I really don't want to loose any of them. :(
Whats the best thing to treat a fugus with? I've never had this problem before. I'm going to do a 50% water change right now but I don't want to add anything until someone tells me it's ok for the fry. Please help

Here are a couple pics.

Some of the white crud fell off her face. If it's a fungus that would be the spores that dropped right? Does that mean that the tank is probably be infected and needs to be treated? So that would leave me with, what should I treat with that would be safe for the babies?

I personally suspect a mixed infection. Normally, fungal infections are hard to come by and do not establish themselves unless a wound is not treated immediately. I do wonder if your convict had a violent fight with its other half. I'd advise separating that fish. A possible mixed infection between fungal and bacterial infection can be treated with Jungle Fungus Eliminator. It contains salt that keeps bacterial infections at bay while working on the fungus assuming it is involved. The other ingredients in it are potent and kill your beneficial bacteria and your fry (which are very sensitive to meds). A sick fish with mixed infection must be treated separately. If you don't have a spare tank, I'd get a large bucket or tub and operate it with a heater and sponge filter.

Thanks Lupin! I'll get her seperated and treated today.
