Well everything seems to be going fine after my male and female cons laid their fry. Heres a few cell phone pics i took just now:

I just hate the fact that I really have nothing to do with the fry and they need some place to grow.
I really dont like my male and female chasing around the other fish that get close to the log.

- Hopefully the LFS in town will take my fry and the gouramis so i'll have more room in my tank.

Congrats on the spawn. The bad thing about having a breeding pair of Cons is the fact that they are extremely hard on tankmates, big or small. This is even more problematic when they are housed in smaller tanks with other fish. Since they breed so regularly, it seems that they are always either chasing fish away from a breeding site or from fry. Then you have to deal with the surviving fry breeding with each other. It can be a big mess. If you have no place to give them all away to, try posting them for free on craigslist. Most people won't buy Convicts for much money at all. Hopefully some of the other fish will knock down the population for you.

Thank you for your input. To be honest, I'd like to keep the male or the female and just get rid of the fry.
Im gonna see if the store in my town will take the fry. I've given her a few fish in the past and she had no problems about it so i guess we will see what happens.

Hopefully no one dies tonight cause of mom and dad :WHOA:

As soon as you remove the fry, they will breed again... probably the next day. Once they pair up in aquariums, it's pretty much a never ending breeding frenzy. So they will stay aggressive as long as you keep em together.

I tried moving a female to another tank for a couple of days for the bond to "break"... but they bred as soon as she was put back. lol

i just bought a pair for $5, with fry in its' old tank, the fry ranged from 1/2 inch to 1inch. i removed the fry and stuck them in my tank. think they'll breed in there? hopefully lol, i want some babies! haha

Ok guys/gals, i actually have an update of my tank.

The male and female pair are gone along with the fry. They were getting WAY to aggressive towards my other fish and i do not want my other fish to stress and die so the pet store in town took them fortunatly.
- I will have pics of my new aquascaping i've done :)

Good call. The exact reason why I don't keep breeding Cons in my tanks. They are too much of a hassle unless you just enjoy watching the same pair of fish pumping out fry with no where to keep them. If you keep a breeding pair in their own tank, their endless fry make excellent food for other fish.

I agree with you 1000% lol. If only I had a breeding tank...

The last clutch of fry I just fed to my 3 1/2 inch firemouth. He gobbled 17 of them up! At first I took all of them up and put them in with the firemouth. But the next day I seen 3 hunkering down behind a cichlid stone, so I snagged them up and put them back with their parents. They're like different fry now, they are so confident going out in the open because their parents are guarding them. I have a 4 inch rainbow shark and a chinese algae eater hurdled on the side of the tank, because the parents want to escort the fry around the tank.

My female was so young, it was her very first spawn. She only laid 20 eggs.

Yeah, it really doesn't take anything for cons to spawn. Their like the guppies of the cichlid world lol. Congrats on your save though!
