hi all,
my savannah hasn't crapped in a while, almost a month now. he's still very active, still wants to eat (although i haven't fed him in about a week since i want him to digest what's in his stomach first). i'm due to bring him to the vet soon anyway for his regular yearly checkup, but just wanted some opinions...anything i should worry about??? if it goes on for much longer i'm going to bring him in early just to be on the safe side

Give your monitor a bath. That lossens things up and usualy works. My goes in his water bowl. His bol is almsot 3 feet long. How big is your water bowl?

Also, feeding him might make him go. My pythons hold it in until they eat and then go. Its another idea.

I hope everything works out ok and its not life threatening.

What's the conditions of the enclosure? Low end, high end, highest basking temperature? I know some herps won't pass through their digestive system if their metabolism is too low.

Do you give him a weekly bath?

don't usually do the weekly bath thing, although his water dish is certainly big enough for him to bathe in. I have given him two baths in the tub in the last three days hoping it would help, which it usually does...nothing yet. after the first one he crapped a little white poop on me (one of his crafty defenses), so i wouldn't think that he's too blocked up. cooler end of the tank stays in low to mid 70's, basking spot about 105 degrees, enclosure kept immaculate

i should add that he is still very strong and vibrant, no signs of health problems...eyes are clear, still very boisterous when i pick him up, claws me, tail whips, the whole nine

The "white", is not poop, its urick acid. Thats the reptiles form of pee. I would feed him a little moe then usual to get him to poop. Also, make sure hes drinking alot and not dehydrates.

Shouldn't the basking spot be between 110 to 130 at its highest point and 85 at its lowest?

Can a Sav owner verify this?

he drinks plenty, i watch him do it every day, maybe i will give him some grasshoppers or caterpillars tomorrow...my only fear in doing that is that if he is blocked up i may be doing more harm than good

give him/her some peas

Do you know anything about Savannah Monitors? They are insectovores and do not eat vegetables.

Only one type does, thats the Papuan Monitor, its very hard to keep and is endangered. Best left in the wild.
