Monitor update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice to see some photo updates. Sorry about the trees... didn't realise you'd let them go. What were the problems caused by? Were they treated with meds or something when they came over that had some effect?

Exactly mate ! The de wormers the importers were using were having ill effects on the females reproductive system, the eggs were not viable some even held the eggs and had ovum that were infected because of retaining eggs. I had some females die with eggs inside of them and the others laid eggs that were infertile.

Im not giving up on the project, but I will be very choosy as to where I get my next batch, they will be babies and they must show proof of no deworming being used on the said animals. I have a young pair of blues and greens that were raised from babies. Its a good start, but id like to have some blacks again.

In the mean time I am having a blast with the australian species. They are very rewarding and I do not have to worry about the deworming process.

Luckily I got the similis straight from the importer before they could even de worm them otherwise they would not be here in my collection.

Cheers!

Coura a pic for you brother

Ah that sucks.

The similis are really nice though, love the pattern. How big is that water monitor now. And are you still keeping these guys (your pic)?

I agree the Similis are just simply amazing animals! Theyre are very calm now that theyve been with me for about a year. I wish I had better pictures to show just how awesome their colors and patterns really are (these pics do them no justice). The mertensi is about 3 foot long. As for the Auffenbergi, they are with a member of our forum, Mike. I havent seen him in a while; hopefully all is well with him. When are you gonna get some monitors dude? I already got Seth hooked now its your turn.

lol limited funds and too many great ideas going around in my head at the moment! I was telling Seth last night I went to a shop near by and they are really pushing the small monitors. They had red and yellow ackies, some lucy kings, caudos, gilleni, green trees and kimberlys. Got to say these little aussie species have some great personality, really liked the caudos and kimberlys.

With the smaller OZ species you get all the might of the larger ones in a smaller package. I wouldnt be too dissapointed if I could only work with Oz monitors from here on out, they are a blast!

Great job Alex, you made me drool all over my keyboard. They all look great but I'm sorry to hear about the Trees. I always loved seeing pics of your V. prasinus. I hope you get a good deal on some captive bred ones in the future.

Hey I didn't see any pics of my favorite monitors of yours (kimberly). Do you still have them? I'd love to buy some babies off you in the future if you get them to breed.

Sweet, now you only need to get yourself some lances and a copple of perenties:D
