Monitoring Systems For Freshwater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes. Go to Aquatic Ecosystems...I believe it is now Pentairaes. They have everything you need to monitor water parameters. Not cheap.

What do you want to monitor? I use an apex. Tells me temp, ph, amps, and there are other probes you can add. I control everything from my phone. And it's all set on the timers, my lights, pumps, water changer, UV. Sends me text and email alerts if something's wrong.

yeah, I was looking into the apex and the reef keeper. But those seem to be for saltwater and we just use them for fresh. I was just wondering if anyone did them specifically for fresh.

I'm using a reefkeeper lite on my tank. I had it on a planted tank so it was controlling a lot more, however now it is just on a basic 40 breeder, it watches temp, pH and lights for me at the moment. When I build my new tank in a couple months I'll be moving it over to that.

I don't know if there's any that's specifically marketed for freshwater per se, but I would think it's usually a "standard/basic" version of the reefer/marine monitoring systems.

I think most folks know the Apex. I've been looking at this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=28970

Not that I really need it or plan to get it, but just like to read about this stuff. There was also one that I forget the name that's about $99. I think those are great options for basic freshwater.

I think the least expensive Apex is over $300+.

So it looks like you can monitor the tank. But have no physical control over anything. I like the ammonia monitoring I wonder if I can get a probe for my apex to monitor that

If you have the Apex, could you just add the that and they have there own version for that? I think that is included with Apex Jr?
