So we have two Monodactylus fish. Have had these guys since they were little. Had them in freshwater, then brackish and now they are in a full salt tank.
We have a 65 gallon tall reef/fish tank.. (my wife's tank) and it is stocked with several small fish and a yellow tang. The tang has beeen in there for about 5 months. We did have a Tomato clown in there, but he was moved into my 100 cube..
Anyway, spent some time yesterday acclimating the Mono's to the 65 gallon tank. And as soon as I added them in, the yellow tang, who has never shown aggression to any other fish in the tank started to chase the Mono's around.
I figured this may only last a hour or so till he got use to seeing them. But 5 Hours later, he was still at it..
Any ideas.. We are thinking the Tang might be thinking they are another tang..
I was hoping they would get along.. I dont have any other tanks rt now they can go into now.
So either the yellow tang is mistaking them for tangs or he is just showing dom over the tank.. Any ideas what to do???

I did pull the yellow tang last night. I put him in my cube tank for now, but he can not stay in there. Was thnking Id let him stay in my cube for 2 to 3 days, then put him back into the 65 gallon tank. Thinking this might help him stop the aggression on dom. the tank.

what do you think?

I'd do more like 2-3 weeks than days… otherwise this is exactly what I would suggest

You may also try rearranging the decor in the mono tank before putting the tang back in. I try to do that if I can when adding a fish that may face agression from the current livestock. It becomes a freeforall for new territory, instead of the new guy being the only one without a spot of his own.

thanks for the info. I pulled the tang last night so that the Mono's could relax and it would later when adding the tang back in would prob change his attitude. I really cant change the decor as its a reef tank and would couse affects to te reef.. but i will wait as long as I can before having to add him back into the 65 gallon. No real hurry to add him back in unless him being in my 100 cube causes problems with the other tangs.. So far so good.
