I just got a new 4" baby mono will he get that trade mark jet black dorsal fin? If so, at what size will i start seeing this. Right now the tank is at 86* and he is on a diet of silver sides and blood worms along will some krilll what can i feed besides live to get him to 6" the fastest way possible?

water changes and multiple small feedings, just take your time take it slow , and should be at the 6 inch mark by the turn of the new year

Right now he is in a 37 gallon grow out i was hoping to get him to 6-8" before putting him into my 180 and then eventually my 475. His bellie is getting stuffed with silversides and krill twice daily i gotta try water changes more often anyone else have an opinion?
the black dorsal is mood determinant...meaning it comes and goes based on his mood whether it be aggression ect.. just like they change up their bars ect depending on mood...solid to camo look when stressed or frightened for example...the black dorsal most commonly appears when you have multiple cichla in the tank and they are jockeying for a dominant position among the others...the more dominant of the group will sport a "mohawk" to intimidate or show the others he is aggressive or top dog ect, but again it is also mood determnant..excited during feeding ect will also bring it out along with a red eye coloration....there are alot of factors that will bring out this trait,but it will still flux on and off....normally I have seen it as soon as 5" or so.
