I have had Peacocks some time ago but Iwasnt aware that there are soo many different types.I would like to acquire one like the one in R1Ridah's avatar,Iwas told by him that it is called a Kelberi,Idont know if it is the same as a Mono butif not I like those also, could someone give me info on these or that species? How much Ican expect to pay for small ones, who in our community has them or can get them,Isaw on here that Kelberi at full size can go for 400 dollars. The stores in my area all usually have Peacocks at small size and they dont describe the specific types that they might be.One store even has a tank full of three inchers for three dollars each. Thanks for any help.

small ones never come around and expect to pay alllot more then 400 dollars

If you can find one it will be a grand+. Unless one of those freak deals. I offered one member 2 grand for his and its not in my tank. Good Luck

man, 3" inchers for $3.00, you can't beat that price no matter what species they are. Most likely mono's, but there isn't anything wrong with them, I would load up depending on your tank, and wait til their about 8-10" and vent them, hoping for a pair. Alot of mono's have bread in the home aquarium in tanks as small as a 125. How much were the smaller one's? I can't believe that price, I just paid $8.99 apiece for some pbass that are either ocellaris or mono's, and $12.99 for orino's. I would definetly hit that up buddy, use the $400 towards a large aquarium if you don't already have one. Just got myself a 125 on saturday, and built my own cabinet for it. I'll post pics later on.

the ones in your lfs are most likely farm raised monos

They are usually 10 bucks or cheaper

It would not be a terrible idea to try to grow some farm bred up to see if you want to deal with the huge appetite and maintenance needs of these fish before you drop big money on some wild and rarer species

All peacock bass are a ton of fun if you have a big enough tank and the time to dedicate to them

Very well said. I got rid of my two temensis bc they eat tooo much. I will never own temensis again. Im spending a minimum of $40 a month on food and my bass are not mature yet. My 7 might get nocked down to 4-5

The store that has them is called Capt. Nemos, formerly Big Als on Germantown Pike just outside of Philly. They also have a good selection of plecos, worth the trip from NJ imo.
