Hi
Found that pdf called :
Reproductive ecology of a neotropical cichlid fish, cichla monoculus.

they tested the waters 3 times a month every month for 1 year and found pH from 7.0 to 8.5.

So what about the 5.8 to 6.0 ?

Is it a difference between testers strip, liquid, electronic.???

its not the test strips id say your water is just a tad bit to acitic. and my monos are in water thats around 6.8-7.0 ph.. thats ideal cause ive never lost any pbass thats 2in plus only smaller ones cause they just love to get ich..

Seen Mono breed very well in a lake with pH 8.5. The colours of the dorsal fins tend to be blue in that lake, it could be the food am not sure.

Where is the 5.8-6 coming from?

i use RO/DI water in all of my tanks (6.0 ph), so i keep crushed coral in the substrate to bring the PH to 7.6. doesn't seem to matter how much crushed coral i have in the tanks, that's what it comes out to.

FRom the thread Breeding pbass:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149479

answer from Rio negro lover:
1 year old of any species of Pbass should be ready for breeding. The pond size is more than sufficient. I really don't know how your could get the pH to 6 given the size of the pond. But why cross the tem with mono or occel? Anyhow it has been done. Do a search on Danh's temono in this forum. You will be better off getting some wild Azul, Fogos, Xingu, Intermedia to breed. Keep these species pure and you will make some dough out of it.

thx

So am I correct in assuming from the threads that you are working on breeding pH?

And for Tems and Mono's? Or one specific species?
