So I picked up 2 mono argentus a few weeks back and the monos are doing great I've read they prefer to be kept in schools my question is weather or not they would school with some mono sebae my LFS just got some in and I would really like to pick up 2 of these guys their about the same size would this work?? Also what would be some other good tank mates in a 120 that's what I plan to place them in once their to big for my 55 I was thinking maybe a couple green Scats or maybe a pair of archerfish, a BW moray eel would be cool or even some Colombian sharks would any of these work?? Idk throw out any ideas or suggestions, also just kinda wondering why would my green scat have died he was about the size of a half dollar when I got him,I picked him up when I got the monos he never looked right and kinda swam on his side once we got home but he ate fine and even chased other fish away from his corner he claimed any ideas why he passed? Just wondering I really don't feel like paying 25 dollars a peice for any more of their just gonna die also. Oh btw the water conditions were fine my tank had been cycled and my sg. Is at .008

I'm not sure about the 2 species of Mono's schooling together, imo pass on getting the Scats from the same vendor and my pick would be the BW Moray over the Columbia shark catfish. You will need to setup the 120 gallon due to the size and room for the Monos.:)

In my 680 gallon I have one large argentus and a large sebae. They school with each other constantly. I also have three thin-bar, four red hook luna, and nine wide bar silver dollars. All of the silver dollars are in the 6" to 8" range (around the same size as the monos). The two monos are always at the front of the school, with the thin-bars next, then the red hook lunas, and finally some, if not all of the wide-bars.

I would think that both types of monos will school together quite well and would be an awesome sight.

Could you attach a photo? Just wondering how large they are

Lights are out now for the day... will try to get a snapshot tomorrow. Do you just want a photo of the monos together or with silver dollars as well? The aquarium is a bit cloudy due to some filter re-configuration today (actually, clarity has been a struggle with the 680 so far, I've only had it for a couple of weeks), but hopefully will give you what you are looking for.

Picture attached... kinda blurry, plus there is some light reflection, but hopefully it is clear enough.

That is nice man the 680 must have cost you a quite a bit and I thought my 180 was expensive. Lol I hope your water clears up soon and also love your roselines. also how are your monos doing in freshwater??
I'm hoping my two look like yours soon enough their only about the size of quarters in the 55 they look so small but they are very active and I ended up getting a pair of Colombian sharks for the bottom those guys swim all over the tank not really what I expected from cats but I got them both for $10 so I'm not complaining they look really, really healthy too. I'm gonna get 2 Sebae and 2 Green Scats pretty soon and call my tank done for now unless I can find another 180 cheap on Craigslist or something then I might get 2 ruby Scats to add to my tank and I'll be stuck deciding weather or not to get a pair of Archerfish, or that BW moray I've been eyeballing online what do you guys think? I was gonna get a 120 but now I'm thinking 180 with a 55 sump I was leaning towards the archerfish or the moray, I doubt I could do both with all the other fish in the tank, and my girl wants a silver dat,or a GSP But idk I've already taken that off the table for now. Oh and I should be getting those 2 sebae Monos and 2 Green Scats as soon as I can find some does anyone know where I can pick some up for a decent price I'm located in Austin TX if that helps if not what about online?? The reason I'm asking is because the guy that works at my LFS ended up taking the sebae they got in right after I saw them he has a really nice 150 brackish setup and actually his tank is the tank that made me want these guys. I should have picked them up the other day but oh well the search continues. Lol shoot me any thoughts and just courious if I did just 2 Argentus and 1 sebae with 2 green and 1 ruby scat would that open up my options as far as stocking a 180? I mean that's 6 fish instead of 8 and if they school they would be in groups of 3 per species. I know if I took that route I could get my two archers, what should I do between the silver dat or the moray just leave them out?? That's what I'm thinking, also I'd have a Refugium Could I keep a GSP in their just 1 if I got him small to make my GF happy??

If you want your fish to have nice fins don't put in a GSP.:) Puffers are very proficient at attacking fish when least expected even in the 180 gallon.:)

Oh I'm sorry I must not have clarified if I got the GSP he would only be allowed in the Refugium of the tank I actually have one in a 10 gallon tank by himself now but he's fine for now he's under a inch I wanted to put him in the sump all that running water would be good for him and he'd have more room probably close to 25 gallons
