Is there a list of decently monster algae eaters? If you have info, please post a pic, the size they get, and what kind of algae they munch on. Im having some black hair problems and green spot problems, right now im solving just with elbow grease, but I would like some help with some fish. I heard flag tails (fei feng) are good algae eaters. Any others that wont get eaten?

No fish can remove green spot algae effectively. These are encrusted on glass and is very difficult to remove. What size is your tank and what fish are in it?

yeah, im not too worried about the GSA, that will mostly just come from elbow grease, im more worried about hair algae.
Here is a vid of my ank with its inhabitants. 55g

here is a site that will go over some... http://www.aquariumsecrets.com/Algae Eaters.htm

i have always been a fan of otto's,dwarf plecos(clown, bristle nose, etc), and shrimp. i always dump ghost shrimp(cheap) in the tank, but they were not for algae. the just pick up little bits of left overs....there is algae eating shrimp(amano etc...) depending on your fish they may not be an option. i put in shrimp still but they go fast due to my puffers.

thanks for the link! all of those however, still seem to small except the plecos(of which i have a hypo and two dwarf clowns). I have already tried using the florida flag fish, ottos, SAE's, G shrimp and currently am starting a malaysian trumpet colony, but all except the snails were eaten. Ottos do the best hob at keep plants clean IMO, but they are soo small.

If you can get them, pick up some Nerites snails. They'll eat ANYTHING.

Fei fengs are fantastic algae eaters. I've got a 3-3.5" in my 75 gallon and the glass is spotless except for a few small patches of GSA. The one end is even near a window and used to have a decent coating of algae, but the flag tail keeps it spotless (and don't worry, I don't starve him-he's been weaned onto spirulina flakes and algae wafers and is nice and plump, but still keeps the glass very clean). It's actually funny seeing a couple spots where he can't reach the glass beside a couple rocks. The algae there is actually quite thick with an obvious line where he can get in around the edges of the rock.
