Im thinking of getting an aussie lung. Ive seen them in person at over 5 ft (shedd aquarium), and i was wondering what some good tankmates would be for one? I was thinking other large fish. So far, this is my list:

arapaima
alligator gar
aba aba knife
sa lung
silver aro
jardini
armatus
odo pike
vatf
motoro rays
pbass
pacu
florida gar
Im not gonna keep all the fish on the list, just ptuuig those species out there

Any other suggestions will be appreciated. The reason im thinking of vatf, jardini is that the lung will already be much larger than them, and in a very large (2300g) tank,so they wont do much damage

Forget the pacu as it might eat the lungfish skin. Get some a school of large red hooks. I used to have 3 pacus and almost killed my SAL. The rest should be fine.

You might have a problem withe the aba aba and the pbass as mine hates any species of cichlids and will show them no mercy. However it leave my other fish alone. You might add as well some species of large bichirs in there, such as the lower jaw species and larger size upper jaw.

Forget the odoe pike as well as they won't last as their life span is very short.

Ya got any pics of that 2300 gallon tank? Aussie Lung is a good choice for larger (deep) tanks because they don't need to surface as much as other lung fish. They wont get tired going to the surface all the time.

Just remember, AULs grow very slowly....many of those fish above will likely have died of old age before the lung reaches 5 feet lol.

You could go an Arapaima, Jardini, Florida gars, and some Motoro's. Dont go any Pacu as they are just a pain in the butt.

My AUL is in with a large af aro, polys (endlis-ornates-congicus-teugelsii), IR shark albino, trop gars, and FL gars. He's at the 30" mark and, so far, no problems with tankmates.

how much do Lungies go for over there in the states? I go to one place and have them swimming in front of me in the wild...lol

That tank sounds way too small for a Pima...

I've got my AUL in with some Tanganyikan's. I've got paracyp's, calvus, shellies and a 7" giraffe catfish mixed in with him. It's pretty calm in the tank and the AUL is the main attraction of the tank at about 15".
