had a plan to use perch for leopards.. and perch only just to see how it faired.
loaded up my 11'6" rod with my sealine 30sha and 180yrds of 20lb mono backed by 150yrds of 50lb PP and a perch rod.
got to the beach and went to work. took me 20 minutes to catch a perch. i was using a sabiki, #8 hooks with fish bites. once i figured out the action i need catching them was easy.
1st perch was about 8" so i cut him into 3 pieces and sent the head out into a deep trough about 60yrds out.
10 mins later.
30 min fight and i have a 47" ray beached
get him back in the water and go over to rebait.. rogue wave washed away my other pieces. so i catch another one and pin on the head.
10 mins later...
this one took off and got into my braid within 2 minutes
it came unhooked after a 10 min fight.. reeled it in to find all my rig there but the point of my 6/0 hook was missing and it was rounded off... put on another hook and rebaited.
10-15mins later
this one didnt take off.. so i figured it to be smaller. boy was i wrong. never go into the braid but i followed it up and down the beach for close to an hour.
with the help of a guy who was watching, i handed off the rod when it got to leader and drug it on shore
across the back it was 62"
sorry for the cell phone shots.
obviously a new PB and def. over record 181lbs...
called it quits after that.
