Considering that this website is MONSTER fish keepers. Does anyone have any pictures, past experiences with cichlids that grew larger than what the books/internet says?? For example, a 12 inch firemouth (I think thats impossible, but I think everyone knows wut I mean.) So, if you have any pictures, or stories about fish that were extremely large, please share them. And nothing like, "I have a 12 inch Oscar!!" because we all know that the normal Oscar grows to 12 inches. Now a 14-15-16-17-18-19-20 inch Oscar would be awesome.

I have seen oscars as big as 14inches.

I almost bought an oscar that was 14" plus just because it was so massive. It had cloudy eye so I passed though.

Petsmart says that Jags get 12" and mine is about 15" does that count

woah, that is a huge plec:WHOA:

firemouths don't get 12", he was just giving an exaggerated example that he was referring to fish that outgrow the commonly accepted max. sizes listed in books and websites. I've seen oscars in the 14" range but never owned one that large. I've also seen severums in the 10" range though they are commonly said to only grow to 8". I've heard claims of 20" jags, 12" salvini, 12" JD, 14" GT, 16" midas, 30" umbie and probably others though the only one that had a picture to prove size was the 16" midas. however, there wasn't really anything used for size comparison though you could definitely tell it was a Monster Midas.

Not really that uncommon for fish to outgrow their wild relatives. We give them such an easy life. Food daily, lack of predation (unless they are the predator ;), then there is some predation), We usually can cure them of their diseases, and a very relaxing environment to live in, albeit small. I have seen 14 inch oscars alot, usually trades from people trying to keep it in a 55, way to common an occurance. And my ex's mom had a 26 inch BGK, no pics though sorry.:(
