i was wondering what monsterfish would winter an 18" pond in west tn. i got koi and pond comets and i keep plecos, channel cats, clown loaches and applesnails in the warmer months. i was wondering if there were any fish that get more than a foot long and would like through the winter.
why are you bringing the channel cats in?????
they survive winters outside in missouri all the time in lakes and ponds, my ex caught one that weighed 15 lbs out a local city pond (actually it was more like an oversized mud hole)
bout 250-300g
pretty warm winters here, temp was in the 50's yesterday
seldom freezes(might last a few days)
i got a 550gph pump pushing up into a fountain
i actually sold the catfish
I was actually thinking of the future if i had a larger pond (10,000g+) for koi and catfish
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO THROUGH SOME BLUE GILL AND NILE PERCH, IN THERE IF THE POND'S BIG ENOUGH, WAIT I SEE YOUR ONLY ABOUT 300 GALLON'S. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND MUCH, DO TO THEM PICKING ON YOU KOI IN THE SPRING MONTHS. BUT SOME TIME YOU COULD GET LUCKY
How big is it across(longest diameter)? That is your main determining factor for what you can keep in there. Your really already overstocked, since koi need at least 1000g per fish to be healthy. They're extremely messy, and so are their smaller goldfish cousins. Koi are very intolerant of dirty water. I would think about investing in a much larger pond before you throw something else in there.
