First post, excited to read all the info on here. I bought a black ghost knife a year our so ago and he's outgrown the 50 gallon I have him in. I want to move him to a larger tank and was considering tank mates. I have always loved giant gouramis, but not had a tank large enough. If I get a 100 or so, can I put the ghost knife in there with him? I understand that I'd have to upgrade to a little larger at some point, but was hoping it will work for a year or so until I get out of my apartment and into a house.

Does that sound ok? If not, what size wither you think is the minimum for that amount of time? Other suggestions on tankmates for a ghost knife are also welcome

Clown Knives generally grow to 24"+ in captivity.. a 30" wide tank is a start.. 100 gallons is just too small for a RTGG or a CK. How big is your CK anyway?

He's a Ghost Knife, not a Clown. Should only get to about 18 inches as far as I know. He's only about 8 inches right now (been a very slow grower despite me feeding him quite a bit), spends most of the day in his little log and ventures out by night.

good tank mates would be standard community fish!! i ha ve mine with my large angels and clown loaches also silver dollars! i have a giant gourami in a 92g or 350L tank and he loves it!!

Crap.. Sorry about that. Yeah 100gallons is still too small for a Ghost knife. Just save yourself the trouble and upgrade to the biggest you can possible instead of upgrading every few months.

you need to get atleast a 180g. The 24in wide footprint is a good START for monsters. And its a pretty common tank and wont break the bank.
