So I live in Oldsmar Florida and I am building a 2,000+ above ground monster fish pond. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this in a climate such as florida and would I need a heater considering it doesnt get so cold only gets cold in the winter. I do have 2 heaters 1 200W and 1 100W in the waterfall bucket. Also what kind of fish should I put in that can hadle my climate I already have Pacu, Gar, Royal knife, and koi. Thankyou for your help.;);)

pacu and knife will need to go inside or heater(wont be cheap if you run heater), gar and koi will be fine!

Thanks but I have heard of Pacu being perfectly fine at 60 degree to 78 degree weather. The knife i know will need a heater. Thanks though

If I were you I wouldn't keep a pacu assuming the pond is a intex pool of some sort. They have a reputation of bustin those.

My Pacu were fine and eating well with temps in the mid 60's. They went belly up when the temp when the temp dropped into the mid 50's.

I'm trying out a wood burning heater on my pond. If it works for me this winter that might be a cheap route for you to get trops through your short cold spells. For only 2000 gallons you wouldn't need anything as large as what I built. Maybe something like this...

Although I wouldn't put it as close the the pool as this guy did
