just a few lines to say about monster fish we keep hearing people saying tanks are far to small for monsters no one has enough room to house them like in the wild not even tin foils but what we can and do do is keep them the best we can good water good food i have kept a 24inch giant gourami in a 180 for years he is 24inch and very happy in the wild he would most likely have died by now from some prededtor or food for humans ther is to much talk about tank size we are not stupid im not talking about keeping a rtc in a fish bowl but you can keep one in a 180 till 24inch for a long while once they reach that size the groth rate slows way down and they are not a active as a say silver arrow which i always cruising and turning unless you own a river none of us have enough room but we can give them a happy and safe life

I would be really hesitant to keep a rtc in a 180. I've done it in the past and it didn't turn out good. The problem is that eventually he will get so big compared to the tank volume that you will be doing water changes every day to keep up the water quality. I know I've been there before. It becomes unrealistic once they hit 30", and that usually happens within the first 3 years. Within 2 years under optimal conditions. I'm sure that you could keep a rtc in a 180 for a long time, and in small tanks they are lathargic. If you've ever been to a public aquarium when they are in a large body of water they are very active. Especially if there is a good water flow. Also in small aquariums they build up toxins in their systems really fast, and eventually get brown blood desiese. They will almost certainly die young, whereas if kept properly they can outlive us. I've heard of members keeping them for 12-18 years, and even that is young for RTC. I say keep your fish how you feel comfortable, but personally I have a 3' hybrid in a 6' dia 350 gal cattle trough, and I am upgrading because I feel it's too small for him. It was fine til he hit the 30" mark. Then he started becomming increasingly lathargic. That's why he'll have a 3000 gal soon. Plus in a smaller aquarium the likelyhood of injury increases along with the likelyhood of tank busting. A 3' rtc could easily go through the side of a 180.

my rtc is 5 yrs old now and its time for me to upgrade to a bigger pond like tank. until i build a big tank(1000gals.-2000gals. +) with view windows and about a 4-5 foot wide footprint.he is currently in a 300 doing fine but not for long for sure.he hit the 30" mark early this year and its time. here is a current pic.gl and change your water:)

I think that a 6x2x2 is ok for things like GG and some of the smaller cats but for TSN and RTC a definate no no.

No way Giant gourami get huge I couldnt imagine a 6x2x2 housing one for life..
