I got this pic in a forward with the following text attached to it. Not sure how true it is but I thought I'd share the pic anyways.

[FONT=arial, helvetica] This was found between Orlando and Titusville, near a house.
How would you like to meet this fella in the dark? Never let it be
said that we don't grow them big in Florida.

Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he
wouldn't cooperate...Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the
bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them
that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that
runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as
exaggerations. "I didn't believe it," Charles Rogers said. Friday
they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Florida
Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast. Joe
Goff is a 6'5" tall game warden with the Florida Parks and Wildlife
Department, he shown here walking past a 23-foot, 1-inch
alligator that he shot and killed in the Rogers' back yard.

Yeah they did not do a very good job on the shadows look at the guys shadow it falls threw the gators tail undisturbed yet no gator shadow?

Unless they just used trick photography and the gator is much closer to the camera than the man is either way not a 23 foot gator

looking at the cop and the alligators feet doesnt seem that real

It's real. They caught in an old swimming hole I used to go to a couple of miles from my hometown. I remember seeing it in the paper and on the local news.

It's a real gator, and a real picture.

It's NOT 23 feet long, the gator is simply closer in the pic than the man, giving the illusion of huge size. Fisherman do this all the time, hold the fish closer to the camera and POOF - monster fish.

Still a big freakin gator though

Howdy,

Thanks for sharing - hoax or not, it's a great gator

I personally believe it's a hoax, I found this on the Everglades Nat'l Park site:

The largest alligator ever recorded in Florida was 17 feet 5 inches long (5.3 meters). The largest alligator ever recorded measured 19 feet 2 inches (5.8 meters) and was found in Louisiana.

I am sure it would have made bigger, national news if a record gator like claimed above had been shot.

Woah.. .that thing is huge... maybe not 23feet prolly about 18. I saw a Crocodile hunter episode where he catches a massive gator that was 18 feet. And that was seriusly a dinosaur. It knocked steve down and broke some of his ribs... Gators scare the hell outta me. The perfect predator like the shark. They're almost unchanged from millions of years ago. Its evolved into such a perfect predator for its enviroment it doesnt have to evolve anymore.. badd ass
