Anyone ever seen or built a monster HOB filter?

It just occured to me that you could scale up a HOB to monster size and have unlimited media choices. I'm picturing a 2 foot wide housing made from ABS or acrylic. Drop in a MAG12 with clear vinyl tubing coming off the intake and going into a U tube that drops down into the tank. The output connected to a spray bar lying along the bottom spraying up with a micron filter sock zip tied around it. A Bubble wand burried in ceramic rings or bio balls filling up the rest.

Chime in with your ideas

I think a HOB filter would be too heavy if your going 2 feet in length. You'd have to use brackets or something to hang it on though.

i too have thought this, i am trying to come up with a hob polisher that will hold a sock and a small power head or even a big power head. i think i will eventually make something out of acrylic or wood.

Monster until it pulls the back piece of glass from the rest of your tank and you have a monster flood!!

if u got room for a hob way not just make a sump that slots behind the tank ?:nilly:

Build an internal trickle (side/back drop trickle) or if you want it portable, make or buy an overhead trickle. There are lots of ideas online and some commercial HOB trickle filters and skimmers available to give you ideas.

HOB are suppose to be small so you dont waste room. If you have the room build a sump wetdry. If you do follow your idea make sure to get tons of pictures! I have seen wetdry type that hang on the back with some pump in them and they look nice but i would rather have a large wetdry under the tank.
