I exchanged my pacu for two 'assorted' female balloon mollies. I put them in my 10 gallon with my mail betta, two female platties, a small pleco and a guppy. For the first week the mollies would stay very close together and swim around the tank.

Now, the black molly will chase and bite at every other fish except the betta and pleco. It seems like she follows the betta around the tank and stays near the top, and whenever something gets close to them, she chases. Even the other molly is afraid of her now. The betta on the other hand is tame compared to her, and usually doesn't care about the other fish. They all get fed well, and she doesn't attack during feeding. Is it possible that she 'claimed' the betta?

What are the sexes of the mollies? If you have just two mollies, one male and female, the male will harrass the female for breeding until she becomes stressed and my be overly defensive. Also you said you have one guppy. If the guppy is also a male then it will also harrass the female molly. Maybe the platy males as well. If this is the case you can solve the problem by getting about two more female mollies, any variety. Also get about three female guppies if your current guppy is a male. That should balance everything out and create some peace. If you don't want them to breed, then trade in and get all male moliies and guppies. Livebearers need the proper distribution of males and females (3F to 1M) to live well or they should be all the same sex.

The 2 platies and 2 mollies should all be female. Otherwise they are all male. I know all 4 should be the same sex. I'm not sure what the guppy is, it is very small, maybe 1/5 the size of the mollies, I have no idea what my Pleco is, and the betta is a male I think.

Whats weird is that this is a female molly being agressive to all the other fish, but only when they are near her or the betta.

If the platies and mollies are all female, then it wouldn't be a sexing problem even if the guppy is a male. Otherwise I don't know why she would be so aggressive. There would be no chance of any kind of a mating bond with the betta. Maybe she just has a bad attitude!
