right??? crazy isn't it? looks like a massive bristlenose pleco or something... hopefully one of the people you mentioned can chime in...
 
yeah, that's what throws me off... I've been searching all day and I did find a picture of what is labelled as an Ancistrus Plecostomus that has those things on the side. But it was a picture of a small one..
 
good call Big-G... quite possibly could be that.. I haven't been in the fish game for years so this is beyond me.. lol

My 2 cents is onacanthicus adonis a. hystrix is higher in its body have bent pectoralfins and has more pointed head compared to adonis wich is more rounded over its head and have straight pectoralfins and looks more slender
