What kind of tetra are they?

Technically, they are shoaling, not schooling as they are spreading out in all directions. Schooling fish are directional, following the leaders in one direction and switching direction in unison.

Most tetra don’t school, just shoal, and many male tetra engage in territorial combat. Rummynose and relatives are one of the few tetra that school. You will find more schooling fish in the rasboras, corydorous, and danio families.

120 neons and 20 or so cardinals.
Thanks for the dose of brevity.
I saw an exhibit at the Shedd aquarium in Chicago with an immense shoal of cardinals and hatchetfish. Hatchets might have been a school :)
