he will be sticking out of the shell 1/4 to 1/2 way, and he will rot within a few days.

Sounds interesting. Too bad I don't have any other snails for them to eat :( Will they eat things other than snails? Probably boring though if you don't have snails for them to prey on

also what is the the signs of a snail that is dead? do that float? do they come out of their shell completely? what?
Snails that die usually can float or simply remain motionless at the bottom but you don't often see an assassin snail dead as most are buried underground and considering their size, they may decompose rather rapidly. Dead snails smell very bad and in most cases, you have to wash twice to remove the smell out of your hands. This is a case that happens with snails that are golfball to baseball size. They can eat other meaty foods such as bloodworms if you do not have a snail supply for them such as pond, ramshorns and MTS.

The largest snail recorded is Pomacea maculata but due to their alleged delicate nature especially as these are the only ones that have shells not easily eroded by soft acidic waters where they live, they never existed in the trade at all. Close second is P. insularum. There is an established population in Florida. Transport however is illegal for this species so you'll have to obtain them within your state. Others are P. haustrum, Salton Sea (not SW as there is a lake just nearby which is drained from time to time; supposed isolated population of canas with a different shell structure which is rather porous in comparison to the canas) and P. canaliculata. All mentioned are voracious plant eaters except the P. diffusa.
