Im sure this is a frequently asked question and im sure many of you are tired of answering it but im going to ask anyhow. What does everyone use to heat these monster tanks and/or ponds. I am planning a build for this coming summer but want to figure out the cost before I get started so i dont get suck with no more money and only be half way done. So if anyone can help me out here and let me know how you heat your tanks and ponds.

why does everyone have to make a comment to try and make someone feel dumb for asking a question... by the way what heaters on a 315 gallon cuz 2 300 watt heaters is about enough for 200 gallons... so before you go posting something stupid and mean think about what you are saying... as for the actually post on hand... what size project are you looking at doing... cuz that would make a difference on what you would want to go with?

Okay, it has nothing to do with making someone feel dumb and everything to do with getting in financially over your head on a tank you cant afford. If I have to worry about whether I can't afford to heat a large tank I need to consider a smaller tank. That is all I was saying. As far as 2/300W heater heating a 315G tank mine are doing it just fine. In the winter months my tank stays at 79 degrees, in the summer months it climbs to about 84 because of the warmer weather.

I run 3- 300watt heaters on my 750 with a 180g sump. Usually in the summer I unplug them because the heat generated from the pumps keeps it about 80 degrees

I have 450watts on a 240gal tank. I am able to keep the water temp steady at 79F while the room temp is 72F. I used to not heat my tank at all, and never noticed more than a degree difference from room temp (due to heat from filters etc). So a lot of those "rules of thumb" don't always hold true.

Wow... that's a lot of wattage.

Thanks guy. And the project is a pond in the basement. Right now I am planning on it being around 1000G ish. And i never said anything about not being able to afford it i said that i wanted to figure it all out ahead of time before i started

Honestly, I think as long as you have water flowing past your heaters you'll get the warmth circulated so you probably could get by with less. I plan to find a way to incorporate mine into the filtration like so many other MKF'ers do.
