OK, so I am interested in doing some sort of small moonlight setup on my 55g. I have seen them for same on ebay and stuff, and I have seen a few ideas for DIY, but do many people on here have moonlights? I was looking at doing some green LEDs, maybe 12, one every 4" on my tank, but I don't know whether to try and do it myself, or does someone make a cool, inexpensive kit? What do you think?

i use submersible tube light (moonlight) and you can find it at any lfs

Dont go too cheap on your lights, I have 2 4 foot led light strips, 24 led lights per strip. One of the strips has a green tint to it and the other is still blue. Make sure you get a good quality led no matter what style.

Check out the lunar light moduls at petsolutions.com
inexpensive and you add as many links as you need also several colors to choose from
I have a mix of blue and white on my 150 looks nice

One of the best Moonlight I have used is the R2 Moonlight. they are durable, compact, and use little energy. I would not go green. Your fish can see you just as good as you can see them. Red is good for your night vision, but not for the fish. They don't respond to movement as quickly, but they can still see you quite well. The blue lights have the best effect. If you DIY with LED you can change the color if you use all white LEDs, with a simple color filter. This way you can try the colors, as some fish do react different to different colors. I observed this when I tested numerous color filters.

I rigged up some 12" cold cathode tubes on my 75 and I love the way it turned out. Here's a shot.
