i was at earl may today to buy some silicone and they had what they caled snow flake eels and as i know they are brackish and not full fresh which is what they were keeping him in yes i baught it i wasnt going to but felt that if i can atleast save one of them than i have done my part.my only ? is can they be aclimated to full marine like a gsp or columbian shark i am going to keep him in frsh watwe for today as i am bussy but tomorrow i am gona start aclimating to brackish i just want the answer if they can go in marine or not and at what size. thank you in advance.

Adding some salt to your tank water will defnitely make your Gymnothorax happy. They definitely need salt when they grow (and they do grow, to a size of approx. 1m) and enjoy a little salt, so why not provide it?

By the way: Here in middle Europe a second species of "freshwater moray eel" showed up some time ago: Gymnothorax polyuranodon. Those are said to be truly living in fresh water, but fishbase.org says that they are probably ocurring in brackish water too.

Not just "some" salt, marine salt & measure it with a hydrometer, being sure not to raise the SG more than .002/week.

snow flake eels if u mean the moray kind are full salt

ya guys i know this and i have marine salt as i do have a salt tank and yes i know that it is not a tru snowflake as i have ownd one in the past i already stated that i got him to save him not to torcher him by keeping him in a fw tank what i am wanting to know is if it can be aclimated to full marine like a gsp. but thank you for the info. and no im not wanting to go from fresh to full marine right away i want to keep him in brackish and then at a certain size aclimate to full marine just to be clear on that point. i awit your advice.

sorry if i came across as rude but the info givin was prety basic and shuld be general knowledge for any one that keeps fish am i corect?

Yes, you may acclimate him to SW over time.

my g. tile is thriving in 1.024 sg. plain and simple enough answer for you? ;)

I believe that many G. Tiles are caught in freshwater, acclimated to brackish and as they get larger are acclimated to full salt.

Right now mine is in 1.006 sg. He is pretty healthy, but I believe that they do better in higher end brackish than lower. This leads me to believe that they would be okay in salt water by the time they were fully grown.
