I haven't been cold-water diving much lately, as it's hard to find anyone to go with. My wife and I travel to Mexico three times a year (We're not rich by any means, but it's what we spend our money on) and I always dive. On our last trip I dove three times and we snorkel twice a day. In the summer I dive the local rivers, lots of trout and salmon (when they're running). I even dive in the city pool once a year during our school field trip!
The best part by far is the fish! I love my aquariums, but even the most monstrous tank can't compare to nature.
Thanks for the comments, I just got a new camera (Olympus Stylus 770SW) before the trip. It is a fairly basic camera, but you can take it down to 33' without any housing. The eel and the puffer shots are actually stills from HD video.
These photos were all taken over spring break South of Puerto Vallarta (Pacific side). The water was super murky, visibility ranged from four to eight feet! There was an unusual cold upwelling of nutrient rich water (they blame "la Niña") so the plankton was crazy. There were swarms of fish fry and jellyfish everywhere, so it was actually quite interesting.
This ray was of the less common variety (you see a lot of spotted rays).
