a friend of mine has these two freshwater moray eels that are about ten inches, he says they are true freshwater but i know they require brackish water. i really dont want to set up a brackish aquarium but would i be killing them in i added them to my 200 gallon with a 9 inch african spotted lungfish?

it won't be instant death due to being placed in FW since they are currently in FW...but will need marine conditions for long term success, and also the lungfish issue as the post above stated.

Those morays your friend has wont have avery long life in freshwater, obviously he didnt do his research before his purchase. Id say take them baxk where he got them for some store credit.

Yeah those ones do alot better in brackish water. and IDK about you but if I was going to I would just go all the way and do it all salt and get one of the larger types of eels like the green moray. There alot better I think.

Iv heard there is only one true fresh water moray and some morays live in brackish water for awhile but in the long run they need saltwater to live very long

How can you be sure it is not a gymnothorax polyuranadon? Wes Wong has brought in a lot of these in recent years, caught in land-locked Indonesian lakes, completely FW for generations. The other debated FW eel is G. Tile, however I believe those are the ones that need brackish after a certain point. My gymnothorax polyuranadon was one of my favourite fish ever, to this day I regret selling him, I had to.
