Hey everyone

I have two G. tiles sharing a tank, both of which I have had for over a year now. Up until this point, everything has been going smoothly, with both eels readily and happily accepting food - prawns, squid, fish, you name it. The tank's SG was roughly 1.011.

However, recently the smaller of the two has stopped eating. The other one still eats heartily. I don't know what has happened. When I put prawns in the tank, the eel 'on strike' just sits there. When I put squid in, he moves around the tank, but doesn't take the squid. These are the only foods I've tried so far.

I'm planning on doing a water change tomorrow, and with it, increasing the salinity by at least 0.002 or 0.005. From there, I'll let them settle.

Is there anything else I can do to help out the situation? The non-eating eel is looking kind of skinny.

Cheers

Salinity should be fine where it is. They seem to just do this periodically. I would keep doing what you are and if it lasts longer than a month than start trying some other methods like raising salinity.

Thanks for the info.

I've already done a water change and bumped up the salinity just slightly. Shouldn't do any harm.

What's the SG now? Parameters?

Right now the SG is roughly 1.012 to 1.014 (I have one of those floating hydrometers, it can be hard to tell exactly), pH 8, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10-20ppm.

Today the 'problem moray' is looking a lot more spritely. I'm going to try a light feeding tonight, I'll let you know how it goes.
