I went to my cousins house last night and we put out my minnow trap and also caught some fish with poles and nets. Well I brought the small ones home to go in my pond with my bluegill when I build it. I am really not sure on the kind of fish. Sunfish for sure. I am thinking they are pumpkinseeds or longears. Not sure. The pictures are out of the water because there was way too much glare on the tank to take decent pictures. I will get some more in tank pictures tonight maybe. Thanks

I left them a little larger so it would be easier to see them.

Can't believe I didn't think of that. I just figured that a green sunfish would have duller colors. I think you nailed it. Thanks alot. And if anybody has other opinions go ahead and say it. Im pretty sure it is green sunfish now though.

He is correct. It's a greenie. They will be eating out of your hands in a day or two.

I already got them to eat shrimp and flakes and they have only been in the tank for a few hours. Also I think that I might have a green/bluegill hybrid? Is that possible? Because he has the colors of my greenies and the stripes like my bluegill. Thanks again guys and I'll update tonight probably.

I thought the same thing the first time I kept green sunfish. The young green sunfish will have vertical bars. It is noted in my Field Guide and I found a pic online once that showed this as well.

Here is a pic of one that is not much older (from Samford university)

Ive caught green sunfish up to around 9" that had the bars. They may fade as they get older, but they are still visible, at least in my experiences. They may also get more noticable when they are angered or stressed.

Yeah, I've seen this too. Mine faded when they got older but once they were aggravated by other fish in the tank, the bars would come back really dark. I think they are more noticeable in the young since they don't have the coloration of the adults yet.
