I'm about to head down there to pick up some new plants for the now recomissioned 125 and was browsing their site when I noticed something different. Geophagus altifrons being advertised as Asta Altifrons. Now I'm not on the cutting edge of Geo nomiclature by any means ,but I think I would have heard if they had been reclassified into a new genus. I supose the question here is have they been reclassified or is this just more name game BS from Animal Jungle:screwy:.

That's right. They have Atatheros altifrons in stock right now. Lots of other cool cichlids too. Unfortunately, they haven't gotten any smarter about taking care of them.

The cross contamination of their tanks is crazy. They have the best selection of cichlids I've seen in years at any store, and a full third of the tanks are diseased. They clearly don't have a clue about proper treatment methods (the F-ing SHOTGUN approach doesn't work!). And don't get me started on quarantine procedures......

Animal Jungle is the most interesting and frustrating place all rolled into one! : )

OP, I know how you feel. I've often thought it's harder to get "part" of the species name correct than it is to just blow it altogether. AJ sets a new standard for dyslexic-naming!

Sick fish or not I wish just 1 of my LFS's had some of those Cichlids. I have to order everything on line.

I feel Ya.Best selection we have is Pet-not-so-smart!

Well just got back and they did have the astatheros altifrons, but that fish shown on the website wasn't there. The questioned fish was a geophagine.Specificly G. altifrons. Seems more like just a mix up on the web page. They do still have the other new species there still now labled as a hybrid though you have to look at the lable carefully to notice that. It's being touted as from wild stock now. Still has the goofy species name on the lable too though.

That place about drove me nuts today . Took me 2.5 hours to get fish. partly because they were very busy , and because the people working there today didn't seem to be able to identify their own stock. Did manage to pick up a couple of "paso pache" type gymnos despite things.

Yeah they were pretty small but seemed to be in good shape. Those little guys were tempting, but not really what I find myself after these days. The red ceibal however looked awfull. The pre-spawn Carpintis were making themselves busy , along with the Paratheraps and Synspilum with fry. That ray in the pond was awsome!
