Hey again, Well, my now 3" Ornate which got one of it's external gills bitten off recovered a bit, but now something else is up...

One of it's eyes fogged up. Not quite white, bluish, but I doubt that matters.

:( I quarantined it immediately and gave it some medicine designed to fight against fungus including clouded eyes and now the tank's all green from the medicine. It still seems fine and swims actively and in fact was still eating even with the fogged eye before but I'm still worried.

Will the fog eventually go away or will it's eye be messed up permanently?

check your water chemistry.Bichirs can be adversely affected bymedications that contain copper. What did you use and what are the ingredients-Anne

I used something called API Fungus Cure.

The ingredients in the medication are 3mg Victoria Green B and 30mg Acriflavine. Nothing about copper.

I need to check my water chemistry though, I ran out of those strips so I'm not sure about the parameters. I'll probably go tonight and get some since it's long overdue.

some salt and high temps might have sufficed, but lets see what anne has to say. Thats what I did with mine that I reported on two weeks ago.

It sucks because that's exactly what I did at first to make sure no infection would take hold after one of it's external gill's got bitten off. =\

Just an observation I've had lately, in the past few days two stores that had ornates in the 5-6" range had eyes that were cloudy, popping out, or infected with what looked like fungus.

That's weird, I certainly didn't get it in that condition though. The LFS I got it from is really trustworthy and they take good care of their fish. Then again, yeah, stuff happens.

In any case though, I checked up on him earlier when he finally got close to the end of the tank. (The tank is so green from the meds it's hard to see his eye accurately without tripping out lulz) He's doing a lot better from what I can tell.
